In this TAFSIG Coffee Club, we discussed approaches to assessing receptive skills in EAP. While for some, these skills are integrated with speaking and writing tasks, for others there is still a need to assess these skills separately. But for all, we share a common aim of how to assess these skills appropriately for the EAP context. This session featured two guest speakers, Susie Cowley-Haselden for reading and Peter Bannister for listening, who introduced some key ideas about that skill before we broke out to discuss our/other approaches to the assessment of receptive skills. Breakout rooms were not recorded. Peter also kindly shared the following Listening Competency Checklist.
